These are the painful-looking injuries experienced by a poor swan after it had swallowed a length of fishing line and got two hooks stuck in its beak and neck. This unfortunate event occurred a few weeks ago. The poor male adult swan was spotted flapping in pain on a small tributary of the river Parrett near Westhay in Somerset by a walker. Lifeguards from Burnham-On-Sea Area Rescue Boat managed to rescue the suffering swan which was starving and literally “hours from death”.
“This incident should serve as a reminder to all fishermen to think twice when throwing away unused fishing line - it can have very bad consequences for animals.”
