A dog sits waiting
in the cold autumn sun.
Too faithful to leave,
too frightened to run.
He's been here for days,
with nothing else to do.
But sit by the road,
still waiting for you.
He can't understand why
you left him alone that day.
He thought you and he
were stopping awhile to play.
He's sure you'll come back,
and that's why he stays.
How long will he suffer?
How many more days?
His legs have grown weak,
his throat's parched and dry.
He's sick now from hunger
and falls, with a sigh.
He lays down his head
and closes his weary eyes.
I wish you could see now,
how a waiting dog dies.

Very creative and sad. Thanks for sharing.
I loved the message which has been beautifully conveyed in this post. I also wanted to share following hadith of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him:
Abu Hurayra (one of the companions of the prophet) reported that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "One day a man became very thirsty while walking down the road. He came across a well, went down into it, and drank and then climbed out. In front of him he found a dog panting, eating the wet soil out of thirst. The man said, 'This dog is as thirsty as I was.' He went back down into the well and filled his shoe with water, putting it into his mouth (in order to climb back up) and then gave the dog water. Therefore Allah thanked him and forgave his sins." They said , O Allah's Apostle! Is there a reward for us in serving the animals?" He said, "(Yes) There is a reward for serving any animate (living being)
(Bukhari, Muslim).
